Oh Kim- I’ve not managed one single day yet of the writing hours and then I got your email and I’ve immediately bought the book and I hope it’ll see me through.
I’m so sorry for missing all the writing hours and I certainly need them but maybe it’s not meant to be this time round. I can hardly stay alive right now… Thanks, love you, Kate Riley xxx
I only knew John through his wonderful, open-hearted blog, and read *Pressed for Time* when it came out - one of the best things I read that year (2022). I guess I should collect his earlier works as well...
I was one of the people who ordered John’s collection after we did his poem on The Writing Hours last year. Bob put such a sweet note in with it. It made me feel connected to the heart of something special. I’m so glad that we have returned to him this January.
John Foggin was new to me last year, when you featured a couple of his poems during the writing hours (though my brother-in-law was a rookie maths teacher at Boston Spa when John would have been Head of English, so there's the most tenuous of connections there). I promptly added his collections to my list of books to read, and have now amassed them all, I think. Before Christmas I read 'Much Possessed' and developed a bit of an obsession with 'In the Meantime', even going to Under the Red Guitar's Christmas Party dressed as the turbulence of everywhere, the thin smell of snow and the sparrow. Thank you so much for this introduction which has been so enriching.
My copy of John's book arrived yesterday, and I think I would have had a lot to talk about with him. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to discover someone's work which I would otherwise have never discovered <3
Thanks Kim that was ace, love the photo of you and John too xx
Beautiful tribute to John 💚
