This is a gorgeous read. I'm just picking back up with my own poetry mentor after a break ...that connection and guidance and accountability brings a different texture to the creative process - almost a refueling. Thank you for this❤️
This must be one of my favourite blog posts this year. Angela, I'm so pleased that not only you had this mentoring but you seized it with pen, paper and soul. My experience too is that when we get the chance to be mentored, we find ways of giving back in the future and this can happen in unexpected circumstances. All the best with your poetry. Spill ink and tears xxx
Wow! Angela, you have described the process of becoming a fledgling poet so incredibly well. I’m so glad you found the wonder that is Clare Shaw and that their mentorship has been so profoundly meaningful for you both. I’ve already read this piece twice; I can’t wait to read more of your writing. 👏
Fabulous article Thankyou! I too have recently started working with a mentor and have a similar experience. It is such a gift to be able to work with someone in this way- and requires great trust on both sides ❤️
Fabulous!! It’s so heartwarming to read this, I’ve had the honour of reading and hearing some of Angela’s poetry and I’m looking forward to future publications featuring her incredible voice xx
This is beautiful. What an absolute testament to trusting others with difficult words. It brought tears to my eyes Angela. It sounds like you've been on a real journey together. 🧡
Thank you for sharing. That is so beautiful. My mentor arrived at the beginning of lockdown. I had asked her a few years earlier and she said she was not ready to mentor people yet but then she phoned two weeks into lockdown. Like Clare she wasn’t just a mentor but dear friend who encouraged me to keep going. She had a profound impact on my writing. Unfortunately she died last year. I miss her terribly. I’m not writing much but I’m not concerned. Her voice is in my head and I know when the time is right, I’ll begin again. I look forward to your collection. Again thanks for sharing.
